As detailed in the Master Agreement, the NZCPA are responsible for the management of New Zealand Cricket's License and Merchandise programme. The programme includes the sale of BLACKCAPS, White Ferns and all Domestic Major Association Team merchandise and memorabilia. A key component of licensing is managing the use of player intellectual property on their behalf. Velocity Brand Management (VBM) have been awarded the exclusive rights to aquire licensees and grow the License and Merchandise programme on behalf of NZCPA and NZC (including all six MA's). VBM have worldwide experience and are considered to the be market leaders in driving successful License programmes. Products may be either;1. Player Based Licensed Product- Uses New Zealand Cricket and/or Major Association intellectual property, as well as player attributes.- Features up to 3 individual players property in conjunction with team marks, where the product draws attention to the name, likeness or image of player/s. - There is no restriction on product categories.2. Team Based Licensed Product- Uses New Zealand Cricket and/or Major Association intellectual property, and may or may not use player attributes. - If player attributes are contained in or on a team based product, 4 or more individual players property shall be equally represented, where the product draws attention to the name, likeness or image of player/s. - There is no restriction on product categories.3. Non Player or Team Based Licensed Product- Uses New Zealand Cricket and/or Major Association intellectual property.- Does not feature any individual players property.- This category includes products that replicate the team they represent, including on field replica and training apparel, provided that it does not include any individual player/s name, number, likeness or image.
VBM have been assigned responsibility for procurement and management of licensees on behalf of NZCPA and NZC (including all six MA's). Once licensees are in place they are required to submit products directly to VBM for approval. VBM have invested considerable resource into creating an online approval system that ensures efficient and accurate approval of licensee products. All products manufactured under the New Zealand Cricket Licensing programme are required to pass through the VBM approval process to protect consumers from product inaccuracies.
